Scheduled for completion in May 2018, the Aldergrove Rec Centre in Langley, British Columbia, is right on schedule thanks to quick erection of the Thermomass-insulated tilt-up panels that make up the building envelope.
Work began Wednesday morning as the first walls of the ice arena were erected that day and the remainder of the buildings were erected by week’s end. The tilt-up concrete walls had been poured into large forms, some of them stacked three on top of each other, over the previous weeks. This type of construction enables rapid assembly of the walls.
The new facility will feature a 550-seat arena, fitness center, indoor walking track, sauna, steam room, and a number of other multi-purpose rooms. Additionally, an outdoor park will include water slides, a tidal pool, playground, and picnic area.
