The THERMOMASS Building Insulation System is a unique, patented, pre-engineered, highly energy-efficient, insulated concrete sandwich wall system developed, manufactured and supplied by Composite Technologies Corporation (CTC).

THERMOMASS has been specified in over 100 million square feet of building panels in all 50 states and around the world since 1980, including over 200 refrigerated and frozen food building facilities, hundreds of dry storage warehouses, more than 220 federal, state and local correctional facilities in 40 states, and nearly 100 retail centers for The Home Depot.

The two components of the THERMOMASS system are extruded Dow STYROFOAM Brand polystyrene insulation and CTC-manufactured, high-strength, fiber-composite connectors, or fasteners. The extruded insulation is sandwiched between two concrete layers. The three layers are held together by the connectors on a 16-inch or 12-inch grid.

The system is used in site-cast tilt-up, plant precast, modular precast, tunnel form and poured-in-place concrete panels and walls.

Made from a resilient composite matrix, the THERMOMASS fiber composite connector possesses remarkable strength and durability. These connectors are vastly superior to steel rods in sandwich wall panels. They are non-corrosive and possess low thermal conductivity eliminating "thermal short circuits".

The shear capacity of each connector is approximately 4kN (910 lbs), and the tensile strength of the connector composite material is in excess of 827 Mpa (120,000 psi).

A single connector can carry up to 2,500 pounds of concrete!

The proprietary extrusion process and polystyrene resin used to produce STYROFOAM brand insulation creates a closed cell component that contains no gaps or voids. Because of this, the rigid board insulation resists all forms of weathering and water penetration, including water vapor transmission.

In addition to possessing high thermal resistance and high compressive strength, STYROFOAM brand insulation is environmentally friendly and recyclable in areas where such programs and facilities exist.
